Story:
Since 1979, Animal Protection of New Mexico (APNM) has been challenging historic and widespread animal cruelty in New Mexico. Drawing on the humane values cherished by New Mexicans, APNM changes established, stubborn practices and policies that harm wild and domestic animals, making sure animals matter in every New Mexican community. APNM is responsible for passing dozens of stronger local and state laws to protect animals, for ensuring humane laws are vigorously enforced, for establishing relevant and pragmatic solutions to difficult animal issues, and for elevating animal protection issues from a “fringe” interest to one taken seriously by the general public and policy-makers alike.

It would take pages to list Animal Protection of New Mexico's accomplishments. They are a very high profile, effective organization in a state that doesn't necessarily have a cultural respect for animals. They have helped to improve and pass animal cruelty laws in NM, run a cruelty hotline, make sure that animal abusers are prosecuted, and assist law enforcement with confiscation and rescue of animals. They have programs that focus on domestic animals, NM wildlife, and chimpanzees who are stored for future biomedical research in NM. | ||

Animal Protection of New Mexico is thrilled and incredibly honored to be recognized by our peers, funders and other experts. We realize that our board, staff, volunteers and supporters, all working together, make Animal Protection of New Mexico relevant and effective!
Despite our accomplishments, we can’t and won’t rest on our laurels. Every week we are faced with new challenges to keep animals safe from harmful practices and institutionalized cruelty in our state.
But we are optimistic because we work diligently to ensure our programs matter to animals on the ground, and this resonates with you, our supporters and potential supporters.
Animal Protection of New Mexico takes very seriously its responsibility to make the biggest and best difference with our donors' hard-earned dollars. We will work hard every day to maintain your trust. We remain enormously grateful for the consistent generosity of all those who engage in our mission. We will continue to forge fundamental change in the way animals are being viewed and treated in New Mexico.
