Paid Internships:

Research Associate Internship
(8 weeks position, currently hiring for February 2013 position)

The Research Associate works side-by-side with the Manager of Philanthropedia research to identify high-impact nonprofits working in different issue areas. This is a fast-paced, exciting, and challenging position because this person will be working on different projects each week, depending on the research cycle.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Calling experts: One of the main ways Philanthropedia encourages experts to participate in our research is by calling experts. Through phone conversations, we highlight the impact of our research and answer any questions they have. One of the Research Associate’s roles is to call hundreds of experts in a social cause to increase the response rate of our research and get the experts excited about our work.
  • Analyzing results: After the survey results come in, the Research Associate will assist in analyzing the results from the survey—one of the most interesting pieces of work of our methodology.
  • Expert comments clean-up: He/she will also assist in formatting the expert responses so that they can be presented online.
  • Creating nonprofit profile pages: He/she will be in charge of creating nonprofit profiles for each recommended top nonprofit by sourcing information from various places online to highlight these organizations on our website.

Time Commitment: Approximately 30 hours/week.
Location: Menlo Park, CA. You must be able to come into the office for the first week to make phone calls, then we will meet once a week for training, and then you can do the rest of the work remotely.
Salary: This is a compensated position.


Research Assistant
(6 weeks position, currently hiring for January 2013 position)

The key to Philanthropedia's success is in our ability to identify and recruit hundreds of experts in different social causes to participate in our research. The Research Assistant's role is to conduct online searches to develop a representative and comprehensive database of approximately 800 experts in a social cause. This is one of the most fundamental and important steps in our research process. Through this process, students interested in a particular social area learn about the major trends, organizations, and people at work in this sector.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Researching and creating a comprehensive and representative database of 800 experts with their contact information in a specific social cause.
Qualifications:
  • Detail oriented

  • Ability to plan, set goals, and execute on a plan
  • Proactive and enthusiastic team player
  • Great time management skills
  • A self-starter

Time Commitment: Approximately 15 hours/week.
Location: After initial training in-person at Menlo Park, CA office, work can be done remotely but strong and regular communication with the Manager is required.
Salary: This is a compensated position.
