Women for Women International, tied for the #9 ranking, supports women who are conflict survivors. Because of the unfortunate fact that conflict and war puts women at a greater risk for sexual violence victimization, WWI’s services are especially important in war torn countries. They offer a variety of services, supports and interventions to help bring women to a safe space mentally and physically. Raising Voices is recognized regionally and internationally as a pioneer in preventative approaches with proven capacity for creative and practical programs. Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML) works to advocate for women living in areas controlled by fundamentalist, female-oppressing leadership. They build public awareness around these issues as well as work to combat the notion that female violence is intrinsic to the culture. It is a network of activists and organizations. #12 Sonke Gender Justice Network

According to the experts, Sonke Gender Justice Network is leading the pack in terms of engaging young males around the issue. Their grassroots community mobilization efforts are showing positive results for HIV awareness and for behavior shifts. Sonke’s work covers the policy arena as well. They are known to be very proactive at the regional level; working to connect gender violence with countries’ concurrent issues. #13 Women Against Violence Europe (WAVE)
WAVE is a network of approximately 4,000 women’s organizations working to eliminate violence against women and children. They do this through counseling centers, SOS hotlines/help lines, worker trainings, prevention, intervention, and advocacy. WAVE is the only network of its kind in Europe and its advocacy work extends globally. Experts point out that wave is truly international is its reach and approach.
